Today I bought a “Greek-English Septuagint”.
I was trying to read it feeling very intimidated by the scary letters, then I realised… these are PHYSICS letters! I know these! These are EASY!
So I could read.
I honestly wanted to skip down the street singing the “I can read” song that was in a video I watched (over and over again) when I was 4 or so.
It went “I can read, I can read, I can read, I can read, I can read, I can read, I can read”.
Domine non est exaltatum cor meum neque elati sunt oculi mei neque ambulavi in magnis neque in mirabilibus super me
Si non humiliter sentiebam sed exaltavi animam meam sicut ablactatum super matrem suam ita retributio in anima mea
Speret Israel in Domino ex hoc nunc et usque in saeculum
I actually like the RSV translation of this (not from the Vulgate) better than the Douay:
O Lord, my heart is not lifted up,
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a child quieted at its mother’s breast;
like a child that is quieted is my soul.
O Israel, hope in the Lord
from this time forth and for evermore.
